Bali, Baby!

Frankfurt, Germany. Muscat, Oman. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. My first trip to Asia started off with 24 hours on 3 different planes and at 4 different airports in 4 different countries and time zones.

Two weeks in Indonesia. Of course we wanted to see as much as possible. We were planning to stay in Ubud, Bali and then wanted go to Flores, the Komodo National Park, the Gilis and Lombok. We did not book all of our accommodations, flights and boat trips in advance, so we could decide spontaneously where to go. At the end, we took 10 flights in 14 days and skipped the Gilis so we could stay a bit longer at Flores and Lombok.

But first things first, let’s start with Bali!

Ubud, Bali

On our way to our airbnb in Ubud in the middle of rice fields and the jungle. Couldn’t wait to hop into that pool after hours of travelling and the struggle of finding a taxi. Long story short: Our driver didn’t show up and in the end we had to pay three times the normal price … Still not half of what you’d pay in Germany but still annoying.

Every night we went to that little local restaurant right next to our airbnb and had the most delicious watermelon juice, Nasi Goreng and fried bananas in the middle of the rice fields!

We did not lose a lot of time and immediately started to explore the Ubud area. Our first stop: the Tegallalang Rice Terraces!

We also went to the Holy Water Temple where people go swimming in the holy spring water. We had to wear a sarong and ponytail because it was a holy place. Luckily we bought our own sarongs the day before at a market in Ubud. After that our driver took us to the cutest little restaurant!

Seminyak, Bali

After our first days in Bali, we went to Flores, before returning to Bali for two more days. This time we stayed at a nice hotel in Seminyak, before we left for Lombok. In Seminyak, we mainly relaxed at the beach, went to the spa and enjoyed some luxury after some very simple days in Labuan Bajo.

Both Ubud and Seminyak have been super touristy but I think I liked Ubud a bit more! Even though both of our accommodations have been great, I liked how we stayed in the middle of the rice fields in Ubud. Seminyak seemed to be a bit more “European” (including the prices) and I think it’s a place people who want to party would go. Little did we know that our next stop would be very very different.

Flores, here we come!
