Canada Roadtrip: Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal

Here we go, on my first road trip ever. Trough Canada. Three cities, six days and one big aim: New York City.

Toronto

We started off our road trip with two days in Toronto, the New York City of Canada. My highlights were ice cream at Sweet Jesus and cheering on the Blue Jays at the Rogers Arena. I’d also recommend to drive outside the city center to have a look at the skyline!

Exploring Downtown: Toronto’s little Flatiron Building and the CN Tower. We went up the tower and the view is pretty cool (except the one hour wait to get to the lift though)!

Casa Loma at the first very hot day! I would’ve loved to jump into that little fountain haha

I loved the Chihuly exhibition at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) – especially the persian ceiling. The colors and the light were amazing!

Sweet Jesus! Honestly, the best ice cream ever! I had the Red Rapture and it was heaven!!

Take me out to the ball game: Baseball at the Rogers Centre. Go Blue Jays!

On our way out of the city we stopped to get this view of the skyline. So worth it!

Ottawa

Ottawa welcomed us with an awesome light show at the Parliament Hill! We watched the show and a firework the night we arrived and explored the city on the next full day we had. We watched the changing of the guard and visited the Parliament Building and Rideau Hall, the workplace and residence of Canada’s governor general. I also reeaaally enjoyed the Oreo Beaver Tail!!

The grand finale of the light show the first night: Can it get any more Canadian?

The Parliament Building during the day. If you want tickets for the free tour, get in line early! We luckily came early enough so we didn’t miss the changing of the guards. Am I in Ottawa or London, England??

Also I’m still a little sad we don’t have Beaver Tails in Germany. Looooved the Oreo one!

Montreal

Our third stop led us to Montreal in Québec. Unfortunately it was a bit grey and rainy but it felt good to cool down after some very hot days in Ottawa (we didn’t know what awaited us in New York City yet).

During our two days in Montreal we enjoyed a smoked meat sandwich at “world famous” Schwartz’s Deli, strolled through the colorful Marché de Jean-Talon, where I tried my first Macarons (not as good as expected), and explored downtown. You can really tell we’re in the French part of the country now! By the way, loved my Dairy Queenmarshmallow blizzard.

I took a quick stop at Notre-Dame de Montréal as well. Nice one!

At Schwartz’s Deli. I totally recommend the smoked meat sandwich (that they are famous for). You even have a chance to meet Céline Dion here 😉

Last stop: Strolling through Marché Jean-Talon. So many fresh fruits and vegetables! Reminded me of La Boqueria in Barcelona – worth a visit! Also I tried those macarons. Not my favourite …

All in all, I really liked Toronto and Ottawa although both cities are very different. I didn’t really came to like Montreal a lot. But the weather was gloomy and we were just waiting to get to NYC. So maybe I have to give it another try someday. But now: off to New York City!
